What is Electrolysis?
A certified professional electrologist gently slides a fine sterilized probe, approximately the diameter of the hair, into the opening of the hair follicle alongside the unwanted hair. When the probe is in place at the base of the follicle a minute current is released. The current destroys the growth cells and prevents that follicle from producing another hair.
How Does It Work?
There are three modalities used today that fall under the heading of electrolysis:
Galvanic or electrolysis is a chemical process. It produces a chemical reaction in the hair follicle eliminating the hair growth cells.
Thermolysis or short-wave produces heat. When this modality is used it heats and destroys the hair growth cells in the follicle.
The Blend Method- combines galvanic current with thermolysis current.
Our machines are able to any method of electrolysis, but if you have a preference, we can discuss it during the consultation.
Electrolysis vs. Laser vs. Other
-Electrolysis is the ONLY method of permanent hair REMOVAL (elimination) recognized by the FDA.
-It has been around for over 130 years and the equiment used has gone through generations of evolutions and the machines, outcomes, and efficacy has been thoroughly documented and studied.
-Electrolysis is completely SAFE for everyone except for those with certain medical conditions (ie. Pacemaker, Epilepsy etc.) which would require a doctors note from a physician/specialist
-100% Safe for Tattoos
-Zero down time from the sun
-Due to the instrument being so small, any facial areas can be treated (ie. eyebrows, side burns etc.)
-Laser is considered a method of permanent hair REDUCTION.
-Most laser patients should expect only 20-60% reduction of hair, and can expect full regrowth with 5-10 years.
-Laser is also only that effective on people with light skin and COARSE dark hair. All other hair types (fine, blonde, grey/white etc.) and skin types (fair, medium, dark etc) will not see much success even after 1-2 years of treatment.
-3 week before AND after each treatment you must avoid any sun exposure to treated area
-Can not do most facial areas as the instrument used is to large
-NOT tattoo safe
-No long term studies have been conducted in regards to its safety, efficacy or long term side effects.
All other methods (ie. waxing, threading, plucking, etc.) are considered temporary.
How Many Treatments Will I Need? How Long Are The Sessions?
There is no definitive answer as each client will be different. A variety of factors such as hair growth cycles, hormones, previous hair removal methods, quantity and structure of hair, medication, and stress can influence the treatment duration.
Each individual session can range from 15 minutes to more than an hour. The larger the area, the longer the session. However, each session will be booked for shorter and shorter times as we near completion and fewer and fewer hairs regrow.
Each area treated will require approximately 6-10 sessions to remove all the hair. Some people may need a few more or a few less depending on previous methods of hair removal used.
How Much Will It Cost?
Cost of treatments is based off of time.
The total treatment cost will vary based on:
-each clients goals
-how much hair needs to be removed
-the size of area being treated.
Each new customer is required to come in for an initial consultation which is $400 MXN and includes a complete description of what electrolysis is, what to expect, receive a full evaluation of skin and hair and finsih with a 15 minute trial electrolysis treatment.
Based off what is discussed during the consultation, we will come up with a treatment plan and a suggested price plan/package that will ensure your results are speedy and affordable.
To ensure rapid results, please follow the recommendations given to you about appointment scheduling/timing.
Clients can pay as you go, or purchase packages of 3, 5, and 10 hours at significantly discounted rates.
Is It Safe?
Yes. Electrolysis has been in existence for over 130 years and with all the advancements in technique and technology, as long as it is performed by a trained professional, and proper sanitation protocols are followed, it is extremely safe.
Which Body Areas Can Be Treated?
There are a few places, for example, moles or inside the nostril that cannot be treated, but we will discuss all this in your initial consultation.
And What If I'm Pregnant or Breastfeeding?
There’s no problem with treating you if you’re pregnant or breast feeding, especially since hormonal changes can bring on much unwanted hair growth, but some women feel more sensitive during these times so will depend on your tolerance.
Please note that during these times, we will refrain from treatment on breasts and nipples.
If you have any questions on this, please consult your physician.
We Live In A Pretty Sunny Place. Can I Still Go Out In The Sun?
Yes! Unlike laser where you must refrain from going in the sun for most of the duration of your treatment (approximately 1 year), which in Mexico is quite hard to do, electrolysis is completely sun-safe and won’t affect your treatment at all!
We only ask that you refrain from going in the sun for a few hours after treatment as your skin will be a little sensitive and you must avoid putting on sunscreen or other lotions for 3-6 hours.
Can I Get Treatment On Or Near A Tattoo?
Absolutely. This is a major perk for people with tattoos!
Electrolysis is completely tattoo safe as there is no light/laser involved.
Laser unfortunately targets dark pigment with a broad light which means that hair cannot be removed on a tattoo or the pigment of the tattoo would be affected and treatment could result in extreme burns to the tattooed area.
